Grading NFL Draft Grades

Good Evening, Fellow members of the Pond. Figured I'd write a blog since I haven't in Lord knows when. So tonight I'm going to talk about something that really grinds my gears. (credit: Family Guy) I am talking about Draft Grades IMMEDIATELY after the conclusion of the draft.

On the surface, it is absolutely ridiculous. How can anyone grade a draft before any player even sees the field in a mini camp? On the surface it seems like absolute lunacy. Walterfootball. CBS. NFL.com. Mel Kiper. All of these come out with grades. The success and failure of your franchises fortunes can be told mere hours after the fact. All this to feed what has become a 24/7 365 fixation with anything NFL.

The NFL has become a national obsession. The Pro Bowl gets better ratings that the World Series and the NBA Finals. A multi-billion dollar industry has formed from the fact that most of us want to play Make-Believe GM. We slurp up any tidbit or rumor we can about our favorite team. This is why the draft gets graded immediately after. It's just one more morsel to endlessly analyze over, till the real games begin.

Quick Hits:

-I would like to congratulate Jason Collins on having the fortitude to come out. I'm glad he is able to be himself now, and hope that it paves the way for others.

- NHL playoffs starting up. Looks to be a very good postseason. Prediction: BlackHawks-Rangers.

- How about the Boston Red Sox. Most thought that they would come into this season on a down year. Instead, they have rebounded nicely into the League's top record. Major props to that organization.

- A Speedy recovery to Russell Westbrook. NBA playoffs are that much less interesting to watch. (As if the inevitability of a Heat championship didn't do that enough).

- Went to my first game at the Prudential center. While not a Devils fan, it was a good atmosphere with great friends.

So, I believe that should be all for tonight. I will be coming at you more frequently, as I will be debuting a brand new series this summer, with training camp battles for the NFL, that while not main news, will still impact each team this season.

Until next time Citizens!

Dan

P.S Could the refs be ANY worse in the Rockets-Thunder series? That game 4 was absolutely atrocious, and Durant should sue for highway robbery.
