{Current Mood: Froggy}
Good Morning,
It’s that time again. RFW draft
reviews and game recaps. Sooner or later, I may throw some fantasy and reality
football content in being that we’re getting closer to non-Madden football.
When we last left our heroes, one was
trying to preserve a 52.5 point lead gained after night one of two in their
weekly head-to-head matchup. The Goatface Killa squad led by myself fought
valiantly from behind against The Joan and Weed the People, but I was outscored
again on the blue show by a score of 96.55 to 83.45. With a total final score of
238 to 172.4, The Joan takes the weekly game and avoids getting swept. I drop
to 5-2 against her in weekly games to go along with my 5-2 record against her
in nightly games.
I will be receiving the first pick in
our weekly draft as a result of all the craziness with WTP getting the #1 pick
in our nightly draft after a historic 148-point loss.
MORE RECAPPING GOODNESS
Main Weekly Lineup (7/15/13 to
7/19/13): Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, RVD, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, AJ Lee,
Kaitlyn, Brad Maddox, Zeb Coulter, & Weekly Referee. Total Points: 301.9
As a result of my double account
snafu, I actually scored nine less total points with my Goatface Killa account
which had Justin Roberts in Zeb Coulter’s place. Still, scores of 301.9 and
292.9 are the two highest I saw recorded for this week for weekly games that I
participated in. My 292.9-point team did manage to win me an 11-person freeroll
so I’ll take that.
There were no Reedy
Show weekly freerolls this week so I didn’t wind up using
my main weekly lineup as much as I would’ve liked. This week, the Reedy
freerolls are back up and running so we get to see if I can continue to put up
points against this particular group of players.
I’m liking what I was able to get
points-wise out of Orton (83.35 total weekly points), RVD (62.75), the Weekly
Ref (25) and Maddox (21). Their numbers definitely helped inflate my total. I
was able to luck out and do as well as I did with six total points from Sheamus
and a mere 23.95 from Bryan.
Del Rio totaled 57.85 weekly points
but only 18.85 of them came from his main event match against Orton on the blue
show. Orton scored 30.25 points in the battle. This is a definite outlier as,
with the exception of two recent single digit nights, Del Rio hasn’t scored
under 20 points in almost a month. I doubt it’ll have any effect on the numbers
he should put up in the coming weeks, but I'll be monitoring the situation all
the same.
Last points of note concern two guys
that are making me wonder if they’re really worth their price tags. Michael
Cole, at $14,100 is still the most expensive RFW player. And even though he
usually scores between 30 and 40 points a week, I feel like you can spend your
money more wisely elsewhere.
Consider for a second the fact that
in his first full week back on television, RVD put up over 60 fantasy points to
Cole’s 33. And you were able to play RVD as a flex for over $5,000 less than
you would’ve had to pony up for Cole. To be successful at this little hobby,
you have to be able to identify and exploit value. RVD, much like the Shield
over the first few weeks of RFW’s existence, is going to be a huge value play
as long as his price tag is as low as it is.
Secondly, I can’t help but notice
that Dolph Ziggler only put up 33.8 total points for the entire last week, not
including the 24.5 point effort he put up in a loss at MITB. The only time he
has broken 30 points since I started logging games the night after Wrestlemania
of this year was the night he cashed in his MITB briefcase to win the World
Title.
He put up a 29.75 point effort on
that week’s Smackdown and I didn’t enter any games for the week of April 15th
so I’m not sure what kind of numbers he put up at that time, but the question
remains. Are you comfortable in continuing to spend over $12,000 per week on a
guy that you can’t depend on to get you the kind of consistent results and/or
fantasy production that warrant his price tag?
Oh yeah, I was almost accurate in my
assessment that we would see a Shield/Usos rematch. I didn’t count for the fact
that the match would never officially start and I would get nothing from
Rollins or Reigns in my weekly head-to-head against The Joan
And now… WE DRAFT!

Total: 189.45 points
Analysis: Well, it's not a 148-point
loss at least.
I suppose these things happen when
you get Daniel Bryan on your roster and your opponent gets one point between
their top two picks. That Bryan outscored The Joan's entire team by himself with the highest recorded RFW single-night score yet speaks more to the record night that Bryan had than it does to the strength of
my team. Although having three of the top four scorers from last night’s
Raw certainly helped my cause. That and the fact that I was able to put up that
many points with two goose eggs and two one-spots on my roster.
Let’s start with Bryan’s 87.2 point
night that was a result of him wrestling in three matches. 23.10 total strike
points! Plus bonus points for TV time, talking time, opening the show, and
being in the main event. No, he won’t give you 80-plus points every night, but
he’s broken 40 points four times since RFW began scoring games and he’s also
broken 50 and 60 points in the past. If this doesn’t convince you to build your
lineups around him, I don’t know what will.
Last night, I entered into nine total
games (nightly and weekly) and logged data for 71 total teams. Some of the
teams entered into the Reedy Show freerolls were filler teams that didn’t have
their sample lineups changed, but Bryan failed to show up on 26 of the 71
teams. That number is way too high, but I have a feeling it’s going to see a
big time drop after last night.
I’m sure The Joan was counting on The
Shield breaking their recent drought of not wrestling on television, but that
hasn’t been the case. Continue to avoid them for the time being. Also, I wouldn’t
worry about Orton’s goose egg. Next week’s Raw is being taped tonight so I’m
sure that some of the guys who put up zeroes last night (like Orton, Axel,
& possibly The Shield) will get to wrestle. Orton is still a guy who you
seriously need to consider building your roster around.
RVD recorded the fourth-highest Raw
score with his win over Wade Barrett. Wade, who I believe only showed up on one
roster that I looked at, put up a laughable 4.65 points in the loss and is
still around $3,000 more expensive than RVD. The fact that 28 of 71 teams
failed to roster RVD at his current sub-$10,000 price is absurd.
The second highest score of the night
went to Antonio Cesaro who put up 40.7, easily his highest score ever. 10 total
strike points, seven points for power moves, extra points for being in the main
event as well as technically accompanying Swagger to the ring. And he only
showed up on six total rosters. That number may change after last night, but
don’t overvalue him after one strong showing.
Cesaro is the kind of guy with a moveset
that can score you big points if you know he’s going to get to wrestle. He just
hasn’t been used consistently enough for my liking.
Wasn’t expecting 11 points from Zeb
either. That was a nice little bonus. And I believe I only saw him on two
rosters, including one that was drafted. #WheresTheLove?
My Main Lineup: Bryan, Orton, Axel,
Del Rio, Christian, RVD, AJ, Kaitlyn, Roberts, Maddox. Total Points: 193.65
This lineup brought me a good amount
of success last night despite three goose eggs. Tough to think that simply
putting in Sheamus or Ziggler over Axel would have given me the unquestioned
high score of the night. As a result, this score will have to settle for being
the sixth best that I logged.
This lineup got me second place in
the Reedy freeroll and only missed out on first by 5.1 points. Damn goose eggs.
The Joan took third with 167.45 points. It also got me first place in an
eight-person freeroll, second in a ten-person freeroll, and first place in a
four-person money game that I won by 2.2 points. My second-place opponent
rostering expensive, value-suppressing guys like Michael Cole, the Raw Ref, and
Dolph Ziggler was the difference between victory and defeat here.
Christian is still a huge value play
and a better option than anyone currently around his price, despite Cesaro’s
40-point night. Only 22 of 71 people rostered Christian which speaks to how
underrated he is in the eyes of the RFW faithful. His 17.2 points is lower than
the norm for him, but I wouldn’t let it deter me from continuing to use him as
a value play.
15 points for Brad Maddox makes me
happy. 32 teams, over half of the teams I looked at, failed to roster him. That
is pure craziness. He will definitely give you a ton of value at his current price.
True, his tag finally broke $7,000 but he’s still a huge bargain at the
production he’s given us over the last two weeks.
WEEKLY DRAFT
Ray (1st pick)
1) Randy Orton (#1 pick)
2) Alberto Del Rio
3) RVD
4) Curtis Axel
5) Weekly Ref
6) Vickie Guerrero
7) Paul Heyman
8) Aksana
9) Kaitlyn
10) Dean Ambrose
Total after Raw: 75.25
Joan (1st pick)
1) Daniel Bryan (#2 pick)
2) Dolph Ziggler
3) Christian
4) Brad Maddox
5) AJ
6) Damien Sandow
7) Naomi
8) Sheamus
9) Lilian Garcia
10) Seth Rollins
Total after Raw: 167.8
Analysis: 92.55 points separate me
from my potential second consecutive weekly game loss to The Joan. Again, we
have that whole “Daniel Bryan outscoring my entire team” thing going on here.
I managed to roster both Del Rio and
RVD for the second consecutive time, but the rest of my roster combined to get
me 16 points.
The Joan went with Dolph Ziggler in
the second round and he put up another “lower than I’d like to see” total of
16.55 points. He’s a fantastic wrestler but I’ll repeat my question from
earlier. Are you comfortable in continuing to spend over $12,000 per week on a
guy that you can’t depend on to get you the kind of consistent results and/or
fantasy production that warrant his price tag? 28 teams rostered Ziggler for
this week’s slate of games. Until he starts to put up the kind of point totals
that most of the other guys in his price range are producing, I’m wondering if
and when that number goes down.
One of those such individuals in Ziggler's price range that doesn't get nearly enough RFW love is
Sheamus. I would’ve given more thought to playing him had it not been
for his leg injury. Still, only ten people rostered him this week. That number
needs to increase. The guy rarely fails to break 20 points and will usually
give you a score in the mid-20’s to high-30’s.
While Sheamus is underrated as it
relates to fantasy, a guy who was one of my sleepers in the first ever RFW
Sleepers and Busts article
way back when is starting to show signs of being overrated fantasy-wise.
At just over $10,000, it’s hard to
think that Damien Sandow is overrated being that he’s relatively cheap.
All I will say regarding Sandow is that he has only broken 20 points in one
singles match I’ve recorded for him since RFW began, and that was in his Dublin
Street Fight against Sheamus on Smackdown a few weeks back. Yes he’s always a
threat to cash in his MITB briefcase but even if he becomes World Champion, I
don’t think his moveset is conducive to high fantasy point totals. Same with Ziggler. Proceed with
caution.
And although he wasn’t drafted by
either of us, let’s talk quickly about Cody Rhodes and his 24.45 point night.
Cody has had a few matches in which he’s recorded 20 points or close to it. The
problem to this point has been that he hasn’t been wrestling consistently enough
for me to feel comfortable using him as a value play. I’ll be monitoring his
next few matches to see if this performance was just a mirage or not.
Interestingly
enough, Cody was rostered by 12 teams as opposed to only nine for Sandow. It’s
too early for me to take that as a sign but I’ll be watching this situation.
Finally, I just couldn’t let Dean
Ambrose go undrafted for what would’ve been only the second time. So I took him
with my final pick just in case. Maybe he’ll do something on the blue show to
make me not look like a dummy for taking him when I could’ve had someone like
Cody or Cesaro.
My Main Lineup: Bryan, Orton, Del
Rio, Axel, RVD, AJ, Kaitlyn, Weekly Ref, Vickie, Maddox. Total Points after Raw:
174.45
This lineup is going to have to rely
on guys like Orton and Axel to wrestle on Smackdown for me to have any
realistic shot of winning any of the three weekly games I entered it into.
The Joan is currently leading the
Reedy freeroll at 186.3 points, followed by Kenjamin Reedy himself at 176.35. I’m
currently in first in a ten-person weekly freeroll with a 2.2 point lead over
TheGame316, but am all the way in seventh in a 17-person weekly freeroll that
houses the first, second, and fifth highest scores I recorded for Raw.
Commander_In_Chink has the highest score at 207.55 with Cody, RVD, Bryan,
Sheamus, Ziggler, AJ, Layla, Maddox, Vince McMahon, and the Weekly Ref. The
fifth highest score belongs to PSS’s Daniel and his Booyaka732 squad with 195.1,
despite having Orton give him zero points last night.
ADP UPDATE
Without any more of this ado
nonsense, an updated list of the top 20 RFW competitors by draft position:
1.1) Daniel Bryan
1.2) Randy Orton
2.1) RVD
2.2) Alberto Del Rio
1.3) Weekly Referee (+1)
2.3) Christian (+2)
1.4) Curtis Axel
2.4) Kane (+1)
1.5) Chris Jericho (+1)
2.5) Roman Reigns (+1)
1.6) Dean Ambrose (-6)
2.6) Seth Rollins
1.7) Fandango (+1)
2.7) Ryback (+1)
1.8) Paul Heyman (-2)
2.8) AJ Lee
1.9) CM Punk
2.9) Brad Maddox (+3)
1.10) John Cena (-1)
2.10) Bray Wyatt (-1)
Not too much movement here aside from
a few notable details. The biggest drop on this list was Dean Ambrose as a
result of being taken in the seventh and tenth rounds of our respective drafts.
Brad Maddox makes his debut on our
big board on the strength of being drafted both fifth and eighth overall this
week. He was ranked 26th last week and has unofficially jumped up eight spots,
but only three spots within the Top 20 which is why he’s only listed at +3.
Kaitlyn was knocked down two spots from #20 to #22 and bumped from the big
board despite being one of five people who has been taken in every single draft
we’ve done.
For the purposes of posterity I
should note that Luke Harper is dead last on my big board having only been
drafted one time and with the final pick, giving him the highest possible ADP
of 20 for the purposes of our studies.
Also, I would be lying if I told you that a wave of sadness didn't wash over me at the end of our weekly game draft when I realized that Justin Roberts would not be picked for the first time since we started doing drafts. It's been a good run.
People drafted 14 times out of 14:
Bryan, AJ, Orton, Heyman, & Kaitlyn
People drafted 12 times out of 13:
Ambrose, Axel, Roberts, & Del Rio
First time draftees: Brie Bella
People finally drafted more than
once: Mark Henry, Naomi, Aksana
LEADERBOARD UPDATE
Entering this week’s set of drafts, I
was hanging on to my status of #1 ranked RFW fantasy player (wait for it…..
wait… nah, I’ll just hit you with it when you least expect it) by a thread,
needing a big night in order to create some distance between myself and the
rest of the pack.
Following last night’s set of games,
I’ve retained my #1 rank and now clock in at 16,840 points. TheGame316 is close
behind at 16,446 and The Joan is still holding strong at #3 with 12,604
PSS’s Daniel stays at #6 with 4,870.
Rounding out the Top 12 are the Reedy Show’s own Michele (#8 – 3,891) Mr.
Trivia (#9 – 3,536), Kenjamin Reedy (#11 – 3,016), and Diamond Dave (#12 – 2,764).
FINAL NOTE
To close, let’s look at some of the most
under-appreciated wrestlers of the week as it relates to RFW.
JBL, who commentates for both of the
weekly shows, appeared in only one lineup for this week’s slate of games. The
same number as Ted DiBiase and Justin Gabriel.
Roman Reigns, still the most under-appreciated
Shield member for fantasy purposes, was only rostered by three teams. The Miz
was only rostered by two.
And finally The Ryback, one of the two
men who wrestled in the final match of Raw, went 0 for 71. Not a single team
decided that it would be worth it to roster him.
Some people who were chosen to be on
fantasy teams over Ryback: Mick Foley, Bret Hart, and Booker T.
Since The Ryback probably scored a good
amount of points, I depart with a message that applies to every single one of
us RFW players.
KThanksBye
